Computer Help: How to extract email addresses from text

0

Some times we might have an old file with emails of people we have permission to email to,
and yet it is uneasy to copy and paste each email address into our mail program.

Remember – DO NOT SPAM – use this tool for a good purpose only!

Here is a free and simple solution:

Do those steps just once:

1. Download notetab light editor from here
You can install it on any Windows machine, and it is a very helpful program anyways!

2. On the Top left select the “Utilities” Library.

3. Right Click on the left bar and select “Add new Clip” and give it a name, mabye “findmail”

4. Paste this text in the right tab you opened for this new clip:

^!Find “([\w-\.]+)@((\[[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.[0-9]{1,3}\.)|(([\w-]+\.)+))([A-Z]{2,4}|[0-9]{1,3})(\]?)” IR
^!Keyboard CTRL+X
^!Document NEXT
^!Keyboard CTRL+V
^!Keyboard ENTER
^!Document PREV

5. Click File->Save

6. Right click in the text area where you pasted the text and select “Close Document”

Do those steps each time you want to extract mails:

1. Run notetab light if you didn’t yet.

2. Paste your text containing details including emails in the new document on the right pane

3. Click “File->New” to open another new tab where the extracted emails will be put.

4. Get back to the tab containing the text with the mails

5. Now double click the new clip you added named “findmail” and you will note it

extracts an email address from your text tab document and pastes it to the tab with

the document containing just emails.

6. Note that each time you click on “findmail” clip your view is focused on the original tab with the text.

7. You might get an error message once in 10-20 times you run the “findmail” clip, no worry,

simply re-focus on the original text tab and continue from there.

8. When done you can cut all the clean emails.

9. Remember – DO NOT SPAM – use this tool for a good purpose only!

Yes, there are better ways to extract emails from a text document,  but this one is easy and it works.

I could change it a bit to run automatically until there are no more emails or to re-do

an extraction for 10 times each time you run the clip.
